Need a break from the heat? Take advantage of one of the city’s “cooling centers.” Churches and social service agencies are among the organizations that are taking in people who need to spend some time in air-conditioned spaces. Some of the cooling centers are even offering transportation.

Last night was a feverish drift in and out of consciousness, at best. Tomorrow may be the hottest day ever recorded in Portland. I say this as a Portland native with a good memory: this is just not right.
I keep watching the horizon for plagues of locusts or a sudden torrent of frogs.
